Moving To Honduras!
Last June, Hope and I had the opportunity to spend a week in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
I have to admit that I was not very interested in going. As a matter of fact, I almost didn’t go. Fortunately, my wife is persistent and I went.
There are times in life when you experience something that you can’t explain — something that cuts you to the very core of your being. It happened the first time I went to Mexico City. It happened again last June in Tegucigalpa.
It happened to both of us.
We spent a week serving the poorest of the poor in a nation that knows poverty very well. We built a house, we visited sick children in burn units and cancer wards, we passed out mountains of food, and we spent a whole day playing and talking to orphans in a nearby village. We spent our entire week serving others, but during that time we were the ones being touched.
For the better part of a year, Hope and I have talked about the possibility that God might be leading us to Tegucigalpa. Truth be told, my wife was sold from the beginning…it’s taken me a little bit to get there, but I’m there.
It is our intent, should God choose to bless it, to move to Tegucigalpa in January, 2010.
Writing this is to serve two purposes: 1) To let you know of our intentions, and 2) To ask you for help.
In order for us to be able to live and work in Tegucigalpa, we will need partners who will commit to help us financially by contributing monthly funds that will serve as our monthly support. We will also need some one-time donations to pay for things like airfare to Honduras, deposit on a home, furniture, and other start-up needs. We are currently working on an itemized monthly and one-time budget. If you would like to see them, let us know and we’ll send you one.
We have chosen this method of communication because we feel that it is easier to spread our information to a broader group online, rather than print and mail out support letters to individuals (plus it’s Eco-friendly…and that’s a good thing!).
We have provided links to various websites, including blogs and information about the work in Tegucigalpa and the people we will be working alongside. There are also links to information about the country of Honduras; those links may be found on the right side of this page.
We have also taken the liberty of opening a new email account that we will use specifically for the purpose of communicating with those of you who would be interested in helping or for those of you who would have further questions. If you are interested in helping or have questions, you can email us here.
Please feel free to pass our blog and email address to anyone (either churches or individuals) who might be interested in helping us. The more who know about us, the better.
We are excited about the future and are excited to see how God will put the pieces together.
Thanks in advance…
